About Orbited
Orbited is an HTTP daemon that is optimized for long-lasting comet connections. It is designed to be easily integrated with new and existing applications. Orbited allows you to write real-time web applications, such as a chat room or instant messaging client, without using any external plugins like Flash or Java.
All code and tutorials are open source and free for commercial and non-commercial use alike, released under the permissive MIT License.
The Team
Orbited, its documentation and tutorials, and this website, were created by a small team of core developers, with a small but growing number of patches contributed by outside developers.
Michael Carter, Lead Developer
Under Michael’s careful supervision, Orbited has grown into a best-of-breed Comet server. Michael designed and redesigned the daemon’s architecture, with an emphasis on the scalability and flexibility tragically neglected by previous Comet servers.
Mario Balibrera, Core Developer
Brought in early in the project, Mario developed the first Orbited applications, a real-time multiplayer game, and a fully-featured web-based IRC client, using only web standards on the browser side. He has since worked extensively on the daemon itself, while continuing to build apps on top of it.
Jacob Rus, Core Developer
With an eye for both design and programming, Jacob has spiffed and re-spiffed the website, creating the Orbited logo and website design. He built the front- and back-ends for several streaming transports in the Orbited 0.3 release, made a chat tutorial and other documentation for Orbited 0.3, and built and recently updated the Live Help demo.
Frank Salim, Core Developer
Taking an active role in the Orbited daemon and JavaScript libraries, Frank Salim has worked towards providing forward compatibility with emerging standards and improving the model for developing and deploying browser-based network applications.
